WHAT DOES AMIVEDI DO?
The Amivedi Foundation is a voluntary organisation for the registration of lost and found pets in The Netherlands. Amivedi facilitates the registration of these animals and is a national registration point for pet owners. huisdiereigenaren.
WHAT DOES THE NAME AMIVEDI STAND FOR?
The name of the foundation stands for ‘AMor est Iustitia VErzorging van DIeren’. ‘AMor est Iustitia’ is Latin for ‘love is justice’. The addendum ‘VErzorging van ‘DIeren’ refers to the early days of Amivedi when the organisation also cared for pets found.
WHEN CAN I USE THE SERVICES AMIVEDI HAS TO OFFER?
You can use the services Amivedi offers when your pet goes missing or when you have found a pet. You can report this through our online form on our website or by mailing or phoning us. Click here to report a missing or found animal.
HOW MANY REGISTRATION POINTS DOES AMIVEDI HAVE?
Amivedi has 110 registration points, spread over the whole of The Netherlands. Every registration point receives messages from a particular area and every registration point is manned by one of our volunteers. The volunteer places the report on our website and stays in constant contact with local animal sanctuaries and animal ambulances.
HOW MANY VOLUNTEERS WORK AT AMIVEDI?
Amivedi boasts more than 140 volunteers. These volunteers man our registration points and thus offer support with the registration of a missing or found pet. Our central information telephone number and various other support functions are also manned by volunteers. But our coordinators and board members all work for Amivedi. on a voluntary basis.
2. AMIVEDI’S WAY OF WORKING
WHAT IS AMIVEDI’S WAY OF WORKING?
Reports of missing or found pets that reach us through the Amivedi website via email or by telephone are passed on to the chosen registration point. Directly after reporting an animal, you will receive a confirmation email stating the Amivedi registration number as well as the details you have supplied. Your report will be checked by one of our volunteers and, if necessary, they will contact you for additional information. If your report is complete, it will be placed on our website within 24 hours. Amivedi will search our database with lost and found pets, but ask you to do the same. Amivedi also works closely together with different organisations like animal sanctuaries, veterinarians, animal rescue centres and animal ambulances. Have we found your missing pet or a match with the animal you found? Then we will of course get in touch with you as soon as possible.
DOES AMIVEDI COLLECT FOUND PETS?
Amivedi does not collect found pets. They remain with the finder until the owner is found or are, if necessary, collected by an animal ambulance or are taken to the local animal sanctuary by the finder.
DOES AMIVEDI LOOK AFTER FOUND PETS?
Amivedi does not look after found pets. Pets found stay at an animal sanctuary, at a veterinarian’s surgery or with the finder until the owner is found.
DOES AMIVEDI MEDIATE IN THE REHOUSING OF PETS?
Amivedi does not mediate in the rehousing of pets. It is best to get in touch with the local animal sanctuary or ask for assistance of one of the organisations which specialize in the rehousing of pets.
IS AMIVEDI AVAILABLE 24/7?
Lost and found pets can be reported 24/7 via the online form. However, our volunteers are not available 24/7, so you may get the voicemail when you phone and your report will not be visible straight away on the Amivedi website. Also, you may not get a reply straight away when you email us. However, we will always react within 24 hours.

You will find a list of all Amivedi registration points on our website. Choose the registration point in the area in which the pet went missing or was found.
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO TO GET A MISSING OR FOUND PET HOME SAFELY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE?

WHAT SHOULD I DO WHEN I HAVE FOUND A WOUNDED PET?
Have you found a wounded animal, get in touch with the animal ambulance. The animal ambulance can usually be reached 24/7 for emergencies. They also often have special arrangements with veterinarians for the treatment of wounded animals of which the owner is not yet known. If you take a wounded animal to a vet yourself, you may be asked to pay for the treatment. Register the found wounded pet with Amivedi to increase the chances of finding the owner.
HOW LONG WILL A REPORTED ANIMAL REMAIN REGISTEREN WITH AMIVEDI?
The report of a missing pet will remain visible on the Amivedi website for 2 – 3 years. The standard search setting is for reports filed within the past 3 months. Should you wish to search for older reports, please change the date in the search criteria.
A report of a missing pet will remain visible on the Amivedi website for 2 – 3 months. This period is shorter than that for lost pets, because found pets are often untraceable after a few weeks. Even though a large number of found pets on our website have, fortunately, already been reunited with their owners, this is not always reported back to us by the animal ambulances or animal sanctuaries. Also, a found pet which has been taken in by an animal sanctuary may by law be rehoused after a period of 14 days. Not all animals are taken to an animal pound. Some of them have only been seen and these animals have remained at the location where they were spotted. Often these animals have found their way back home again or have moved on.
If need be, an Amivedi volunteer is able to look back in time for found pets in our database. Please get in touch with the registration point in the area if you require this to be done.
HOW CAN I MAKE CHANGES IN MY REPORT?
Unfornately, you cannot make any changes to your initial report yourself. If details need to be changed or added, please get in touch with the registration point in your area by email or telephone. The contact information is given in the confirmation email you have received directly after reporting the pet. The registration point volunteer will make the necessary changes for you.
HOW CAN I DELETE MY REPORT?
You cannot delete your report from the Amivedi website yourself. Has your missing pet been found, has the owner of a found pet been traced or do you need to change the report for another reason? Please get in touch with the registration point in your area by email or telephone. The contact information is given in the confirmation email you have received directly after reporting the pet. The volunteer of this registration point will delete your report from our website.
WHAT ARE THE COSTS INVOLVED FOR REGISTERING A PET WITH AMIVEDI?
There are no costs involved for registering a missing or found pet with Amivedi. Our service is free.

HOW CAN I MAKE A DONATION TO AMIVEDI?
Would you like to become a donor of Amivedi? We can certainly use your help. Support us financially and make a donation or donate a set amount per month or year. WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH MY DONATION?
Amivedi is a voluntary organisatin that facilitates the registration of missing and found pets free of charge. Although we try to keep our costs down as much as possible, we do need money to pay the expenses our volunteers incur. Our donors and benefactors make this possible through their financial support. Because Amivedi qualifies as ANBI organization, any donations and legacies made to our organization are exonerated from taxes.

WHERE CAN I FILE MY COMPLAINT?
If you have a complaint about one of our registration points, please get in touch with the coordinator of the province in which the registration point is located. WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH THE PRIVATE INFORMATION I HAVE GIVEN?
Amivedi will ask for your name, address and contact details when you register a missing or found pet with us. We need this information in order to be able to match an animal with its owner. Private information will not be shared with third parties and are only known by the registration point that received your registration. When your report is visible on our website, your personal details are also shielded. We will, however, pass on your personal details to other organisations such as the animal ambulance, veterinarians, animal sanctuaries or the Dierenbescherming , only if and when we consider it necessary in the interest of the animal
